The Tecno Camon 17 was officially announced in Kenya on April 27, 2021. This device is the successor of the Camon 16 released last year. To go by appearance, it is not a straight update over the Camon 16.
The phone features 6.6 inches IPS LCD display which is a downgrade from 6.8 inches. The resolution of the phone is still the 720 x 1600 pixels found in the previous version.
Where a noticeable upgrade is seen is in the processor. The phone is powered by the MediaTek Helio G85 processor which is slightly more powerful than the previous generation. The processor comes with Mali-G52 MC2 GPU which runs at a higher clock speed as well as the A55 CPU cores, while the A75 cores are the same.
This device runs on HiOS 7.6 based on the Android 11 operating system. This phone comes with an option of 4GB or 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The RAM is the same, but you get double the storage in the previous generations.
The front of the smartphone still features a punch-hole camera, but it sports an 8MP sensor which is a downgrade from 16MP. Looking at the rear cameras, the main camera of the phone feature a 48MP sensor down from 64MP on the Camon 16 series. The ultra-wide camera features 16 megapixels sensors.
Fueling this device is a 5000mAh battery as seen in previous generations and there is no mention of fast charging.
The starting Price of the Tecno Camon 17 is KES 22,800 in Kenya, equivalent to NGN 80,500 in Nigeria and GHS 1,215 in Ghana.
