The Tecno Camon 17 series is the recent phone in the Camon lineup released in late April 2021. This smartphone got a lot of rumors and anticipation before it was officially released.
The three phones in this series look almost completely identical. The same color, camera bump, materials, and the list goes on and on. This makes you wonder if there are any differences in any of these phones and what the extra dollars on each phone get you. Just a little reminder here, the Camon 17 has the lowest price, then the Camon 17P, and obviously, the Camon 17 Pro costs you more.
This article talks about the Tecno Camon 17, Camon 17P, and Camon 17 Pro, and specifically what the difference actually are to constitute such a price difference.
So we will deep dive into the similarities and differences between these devices to help you decide which is actually the better buy. We talk about this because it is always about which one gives you the most specs for the lowest price in the world of mid-range phones.
Like I said earlier, the phone looks identical, and on the back, they are both the same material, same color, and there are three different colors for each of them. I will be willing to back that; if you are holding just one of these and the other one is in another room, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell which one you are actually holding.
But you can actually tell if you are holding them side by side, but the difference is not that much. The Camon 17 is 6.6 inches in size, while the Camon 17P and Camon 17 Pro are 6.8 inches and 6.82 inches, respectively. But to me, that’s not a big difference, and anyone that cares about phone sizes can go for any of these three.
So if you are buying the Camon 17P or 17 Pro, it is not like you are paying for a huge size improvement.
The display aspect of these phones is where you can start to tell the difference. The previous lineup of the Camon series (Camon 16 Series) comes with 720 x 1600 pixels which I really don’t like about the Tecno Camon 16. The same goes for the Camon 17, but if you want more resolution, you should consider buying either the Camon 17P or the Camon 17 Pro.
These other two phones come with a 1080p resolution, which I consider a mid-range phone list in 2021. You might probably be wondering why resolution matters. The thing is, pictures become clearer and detailed than the 720p resolution.
Another aspect of the display you need to check out is the refresh rate. The Camon 17 and 17 Pro comes with a 90Hz refresh rate. I keep wondering why Tecno didn’t include a 90Hz refresh rate in the Camon 17P. You are paying more to buy the Camon 17P, so why is there no 90Hz refresh rate.
Having a more refresh rate is good because the display looks smooth and feels fast, especially when watching movies and playing games. If you want a good display, you should go for the Camon 17 Pro if your budget permits.
In the performance aspect, there is no much difference. Because the three phones all come with the MediaTek Helio G85 processor, a high-speed and gaming processor. The Tecno Camon 17 Pro performs a little bit well than the rest. It comes with a Mali-G72 GPU instead of the Mali-G52 in the other two. These make the gaming experience better with the 17 Pro.
In terms of memory, you’ve got an option of 4GB or 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage in the Camon 17, 6GB RAM, and 128GB in Camon 17P and 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage in The Camon 17 Pro.
You have the same memory options in the Camon 17 and Camon 17P, but if you want a bigger and better memory option, the Tecno Camon 17 Pro gets you that.
The number of cameras a phone has is one of the features most people first check. And that is justifiable since the only camera many of us own is our smartphone. The cameras in the Tecno Camon 17 series are amazing. The Camon 17 and 17P feature a triple camera setup, while the Camon 17 Pro has four cameras.
Actually, I won’t buy any of Tecno phones because of more cameras because most of their cameras are not on the mainboard. For example, the Camon 16 of last year comes with four cameras, but there is only one camera on the phone’s mainboard. They do this just for marketing purposes so that they can say a phone has more cameras. So, you should know you are getting only the primary camera.
The Camon 17 features three cameras with 48MP as the main camera, 2MP depth, and the third camera is unknown. The Camon 17P features a Quad-camera set-up, including a 64MP primary camera, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth sensor, while the fourth camera is unknown. And lastly, the Camon 17 Pro features a quad-camera set-up with 64MP sensors on the main camera, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP depth, and 2MP monochrome.
As for the selfie cameras, the 17 and 17P version comes with a 16MP sensor while the Pro variant features a 48MP sensor, which is a huge upgrade.
Again, your focus should be the main camera. So, the Camon 17P and 17 Pro come with a better camera feature. The Pro version gets you an extra ultrawide camera. So for those that love using ultrawide cameras, then your choice should be the Pro version. For me, I won’t go for the Pro because of the extra ultrawide camera because it’s not that great.
The battery life is vital; that is why we wrote a list of the best battery life phone. There are so many things around your phone having a good battery life. The battery life of the Tecno Camon 17 series is perfect. All three phones come with a 5000mAh battery.
But where you can actually see the difference is the charging rate. The Camon 17 and 17P both come with an 18W fast charger, but the 17 Pro comes with 25W fast charging, which obviously will make the phone charge faster.
The Tecno Camon 17 series has a set of great phones that provides money for value. But for me, I would either go for the Camon 17 or 17 Pro and skip the 17P. Not that the 17P is not a great phone, but it is like a hit and miss. You can see it comes with some upgraded features of the Camon 17, and some of the other features are downgraded. On top of that, you will pay an extra $50 for the Camon 17.
Which of these phones do you think is better? I’d love to know your own opinions in the comment below.
